Funding

To fulfill it’s mandate to support the care and comfort of residents of southern Gulf Islands health-care facilities,  the Lady Minto Hospital Auxiliary Society raises funds to support the Lady Minto Hospital (LMH) and Greenwoods Eldercare Society (G/B) facilities (Complex Care Facility and Braehaven Assisted Living facility).  Funds support LMH “Comfort and Care”, LMH equipment purchases, G/B Therapy Programs, G/B Recreation Department Support and G/B capital purchases. Most of these funds are raised through operation of the auxiliary Thrift Shop located in the rear building at the Upper Ganges Centre.  In 2019,  our Auxiliary donated a total of $228,764 and $136,625 was donated in 2020.

As well, funds are raised through sales from the Knitters’ Showcase at the Thrift Shop.  Headed up by the Showcase Co-ordinator, volunteers stock the showcase in the with hand-knit baby sets, children’s clothing and other popular knitted items.   The volunteer knitters use some of the yarn received at the Thrift Shop.  Proceeds from the sale of these items are used to support auxiliary donations to both the hospital and Greenwoods facilities.

Note: Knitters’ Showcase has been moved from Lady Minto Hospital to the Lady Minto Thrift Shop.

In 2012, the Auxiliary also donated $25,000 to support expansion of the Mayne Island Health Centre emergency room wing.

In 2017, the Auxiliary donated $20,907 to support emergency replacement of an ECG machine on Pender Island.
